As recently as 1959 these eight fugues were included, with BWV numbers (553-560) in Wolfgang Schmeider's thematic index of J.S. Bach's works, although with the proviso that they were probably composed by Johann Ludwig Krebs, or his father, Johann Tobias. Both were Bach's pupils. Until authorship has been definitely assigned, we are presenting them, with their BWV numbers, in this edition, for viol quartet, using a title that may amuse biochemists. We hope the edition may be as essential to viol players as the cycle is to their well-being. Score and parts: $18.00
