This quintet for recorders (Soprano, Alto, Alto doubling on Sopranino, Tenor and Bass) won the 1993 Recorder Composition Contest sponsored by the East Bay, California Chapter of the ARS. The movements, played without a break, are: Marching Band; Organ Grinder; Calliope; Dancing Ladies;Bird Calls; Waltzing Turtles and Frogs; and Drum & Bugle Corps. The "Bird Calls" are produced with the head joint of each recorder (except for the bass) in ways that are described fully in the preface. 10 birds are represented! Cover design by Robin Goodfellow.
